Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes. Most of the practices can be done seated. If you need to sit during the whole class or just part of it, you might find it helpful to have a chair close by.

  • Comfortable loose fitting clothing that you can move in. You are welcome to wear shoes of your choice, just socks or bare feet. If you choose shoes, then lightweight shoes with thin rubber soles are recommended so that you are aware of the floor. Trainers are also fine if you feel comfortable in them.

  • Not at all, but you may prefer to stand on a mat. If you are attending an in-person class you can also take a mat with you or you can do the exercises in trainers, flat soft shoes, socks or bare feet.

  • Depending on the format of the class there may be a short 10 minute meditation at the end of the class. This helps to bring you back to the present moment and allows you to take some well-deserved time just for you. Nothing else to do in that moment except, breathe and relax.

  • Qigong is an accessible exercise, easy to learn and can be practiced by anyone, any age and any fitness level. If you have a concern or question about a particular health condition, please contact me and I will be happy to talk through any adaptations we can make to Qigong movements to help with your practice.

  • I actively encourage practicing at home in between classes/sessions. Think about the space you are in to practice Qigong. Ensure your space is safe and there is enough room to stretch your arms and legs, and to swing your arms freely without bumping into anything. Ensure, the surface you stand on is not slippery. You know your own body and how well it can move so its important to make adjustments and modify movements to take care of yourself. Only move your body within your own comfort level.

  • Private sessions are typically held online via zoom where we have the opportunity to focus on what you need at that time - tailored to your particular needs. Sessions are 60 or 90 minutes long. The first session includes time to discuss what you would like to focus on, in terms of health and wellbeing. Private sessions are also a good opportunity to ease into the practice of Qigong, to learn the basics and to build your own regular practice at home or with me during in-person classes. You may want a private session to go deeper into Qigong, for example you might want to learn more breathing techniques or to focus on a particular issue in your body or with your health; then a private session is a good opportunity to do so.
