How Qigong Works

Qigong is unlike conventional exercise.

In Chinese medicine, the organs are responsible for the health of the body, Therefore it is not enough to only work with the muscular-skeletal system.

The intention is not to burn calories or increase heart rate. Instead, Qigong nourishes and strengthens all the body’s organs – without strain or stress.

Restores and promotes healthy flow of energy

According to traditional Chinese Medicine, if our body’s Qi (our internal energy) becomes stagnant or blocked, it can lead to imbalances in the body and health issues.

Qigong aims to restore balance and promote a healthy flow of energy (Qi) and blood throughout the body, by combining simple breathing techniques, the mind and a series of gentle movements.

Movements can be tailored to meet individual needs

Qigong movements and practices can be tailored for the specific needs of the individual, at any age or fitness level.

This will not only improve overall energy levels and balance mood, but will also improve physical fitness and help recovery from illness and injury.

For example, let’s say that someone has been suffering with a lower back problem. This can be physically and emotionally draining. I can structure a Qigong session that gently stretches and moves the muscles in the back to reduce tightness and tension.

Qigong can also be tailored for a specific season in the year (e.g., summer or winter).
