Feeling constantly on edge, overwhelmed, or unable to switch off
Persistent fatigue that doesn’t improve, even with rest
Chronic tension, pain, or physical tightness
Sleep difficulties or an overactive mind
Emotional heaviness, grief, or feeling stuck
Navigating change, menopause, or life transitions
What Is Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive practice that supports your body in returning to a more balanced, settled state.
It works with your body’s natural ability to restore and rebalance itself - helping to ease the effects of stress, tension, and emotional overwhelm. Many people describe it as a deep sense of calm, like their system finally has space to switch off and rest.
You don’t need to talk through or even identify what the issue is. You don’t need to “do” anything at all. You simply lie comfortably and receive.
During a session, you may notice your breathing soften, your body begin to relax, or your mind begin to quieten. For some, the shifts are felt in the moment. For others, they unfold more gently in the hours or days that follow - better sleep, less tension, a feeling of being more like yourself again.
Reiki isn’t a massage, and it isn’t tied to any religion or belief system. You don’t need to believe in anything for it to work - only to allow yourself the time and space to rest.
It can be used alongside other forms of care and support, offering a calm, supportive space for your body to settle and restore.
For many, it’s the first time in a long time that their body truly feels at ease.
How Reiki Supports Your Nervous System
When your body is under prolonged stress - physical, emotional, or both - your nervous system can become stuck in a state of high alert. This is your body’s natural stress response, often called fight-or-flight. It’s designed to protect you, but when it doesn’t switch off, it can leave you feeling exhausted yet wired, tense, or emotionally overwhelmed.
Reiki gently supports your body in shifting out of this stress response and into a state of deep rest - often called “rest and repair.” This is where it does its best healing. Heart rate slows, breathing deepens, muscles soften, and your system is given the space it needs to restore.
You don’t need to do anything to make this happen.
You don’t need to understand it or control it.
Reiki simply creates the conditions - and your body’s own wisdom does the rest.
As a former nurse and medical educator, with a background in breathwork and nervous system regulation, I bring a grounded and informed approach to my Reiki practice. This isn’t about guesswork - it’s about understanding how the body responds to stress, and offering it something different.
What to Expect During a Session
When you arrive, we’ll have a brief chat so I can understand what’s brought you to Reiki and how you’re feeling. There’s no need to go into detail - just whatever feels comfortable to share.
You’ll then be invited to lie down and get comfortable. You stay fully clothed, and everything is done at a pace that feels right for you.
During the session, I place my hands gently on or just above different areas of the body, holding each position for a few minutes before moving on. Some people prefer hands-on, others hands-off — I’ll always check what feels right for you.
You don’t need to do anything at all. There’s nothing to get right. This is simply time for you to rest and receive.
Everyone experiences Reiki differently. You may feel warmth, gentle tingling, or a deep sense of calm. Some people notice emotions surfacing, while others simply rest - however it shows up for you is completely okay.
Afterwards, there’s time to rest, have some water, and gently come back to yourself. Sessions last around 60 minutes, giving you space to settle, receive, and return to your day.
"I felt I became relaxed very quickly. Afterwards it felt like I had been sleeping but I was aware throughout the session. Lorraine explains the session very clearly, and you feel supported in the process." - W.M.
Benefits People Often Experience
Reiki is a deeply individual experience. What you notice may be different each time. Rather than fixed outcomes, it offers your body and mind space to respond in their own way and in their own time.
Many people notice:
A deeper sense of calm and relaxation
Feeling lighter, clearer, or more grounded
Improved sleep in the days that follow
A release of physical tension or emotional heaviness
Renewed energy and a sense of inner settling
Greater ease during times of stress, change, or uncertainty
Some people feel the benefits straight away. For others, they unfold more gently over the hours or days that follow. There's no right or wrong response - only yours.
In-Person & Distance Reiki
I offer Reiki both in person at my wellness space in Aberdeenshire and as distance sessions, so you can choose what feels right for you.
In-Person Sessions
In-person Reiki allows you to step away from your day and settle into a calm, nurturing space. There’s something powerful about being held in that environment - the warmth, the stillness, the permission to simply be. This is the option many people choose for their first experience.
Distance Sessions
Distance Reiki is offered with the same care and intention as an in-person session, simply without being in the same room. Many people find it just as calming and restorative..
Your session is arranged at a time that suits you. All you need is a quiet, comfortable space - sitting or lying down - where you can rest and receive.
Distance Reiki can be especially helpful if you are recovering from illness or surgery, unable to travel easily, or prefer to receive Reiki in the comfort of your own home.
Whichever option you choose, the intention and the care behind every session is exactly the same.
Who Is Reiki For?
Reiki is for anyone who feels ready to pause, rest, and give their body the space it needs to restore. You don’t need to be in crisis or have a specific reason - sometimes it’s simply a sense that something needs to shift.
That said, Reiki can be particularly supportive if you are:
Living with chronic pain, tension, or fatigue
Managing a long-term condition or recovering from illness or surgery
Experiencing stress, anxiety, or emotional overwhelm
Going through grief, loss, or a significant life change
Navigating menopause or hormonal shifts
Feeling disconnected from yourself or like you’re just getting through the day
Someone who is always looking after everyone else
Simply longing for stillness, balance, and space to breathe
Reiki is suitable for all ages and can be received alongside conventional medical treatment and other complementary therapies.
“I had a wonderfully calming Reiki session that left me feeling lighter with a sense of ease and clarity. The little cabin space felt very safe and welcoming, enhancing the relaxing experience” - B.A
Why Reiki With Me?
I came to Reiki through my own journey of learning to slow down, listen to my body, and understand what real rest actually feels like.
After many years working as a nurse and medical educator, I understood the body well — but it was through practices like breathwork, Qigong, and energy work that I began to understand what it truly needs to restore and rebalance.
That clinical background shapes everything about the way I practise. That clinical background shapes how I practise. I understand how your nervous system responds to stress, how the body holds tension, and what it needs to feel safe enough to begin to let go. My approach is grounded, trauma-aware, and always led by you - your comfort, your pace, your boundaries.
I don’t believe healing needs to be complicated or mystical.
It needs to be safe.
It needs to be human.
It needs to meet you exactly where you are.
Reiki is a powerful practice in its own right, offering your body the space it needs to rest, reset, and restore.
It also sits within a wider way of working that includes breathwork, Qigong, and principles from Traditional Chinese Medicine. If you’ve worked with me before, Reiki will feel like a natural extension. If this is your first time, you’re very welcome here.
"I was given a thorough explanation of what to expect and I was amazed at how in touch Lorraine was with what I was experiencing during the session. Afterwards, I was left feeling lighter, balanced and less scattered in my thinking." - C.A

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes. Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive practice and is generally considered safe for people of all ages and stages of health, including during pregnancy and recovery from illness or surgery. Reiki practitioners do not diagnose, prescribe, or interfere with medical treatment, and Reiki is always offered as a complementary support rather than a replacement for care
-
No. You don't need to believe in anything or understand how Reiki works to receive it. All that's needed is a willingness to rest and be open to the experience. Many people come feeling curious or even a little sceptical - and that's absolutely fine.
-
During a Reiki session, you’ll be invited to lie down fully clothed in a comfortable, quiet space.
I gently place my hands on or just above different areas of your body, such as your head, shoulders, and torso, holding each position for a few minutes before moving on.
You don’t need to do anything at all - this is simply time for you to rest and receive.
Many people find their breathing softens, their body begins to relax, and their mind quietens. Everyone’s experience is different, and you’re always in control throughout the session.
-
Most people feel deeply relaxed, lighter, or calmer. Some notice improved sleep, a release of tension, or a sense of things settling in the days that follow. Occasionally, you may feel a little tired or emotional afterwards - this can be a normal response as your body settles and adjusts, and it usually passes within a day or two. I always encourage you to rest, drink water, and be gentle with yourself afterwards.
-
Absolutely. Your comfort comes first, always. If at any point during a session you feel uncomfortable or would like me to adjust anything - whether that's the hand placement, or simply stopping altogether - you only need to say. There is no expectation to "push through" anything. This is your time, your body, and you remain in control throughout.
-
There’s no set number. Some people notice a shift after one session. Others find that a short course - often around 4 to 6 sessions - allows the effects to build and settle more deeply, particularly during times of stress, change, or recovery. We can talk about what feels right for you after your first session.
-
Reiki is a complementary therapy, not a replacement for medical care, and I would never promote it as a cure for any condition. Many people find that Reiki supports them alongside their medical treatment - helping them feel calmer, more resilient, and better able to cope. It can support rest and relaxation during recovery.
-
There is very little you need to do. Wear comfortable clothing, avoid heavy meals or caffeine just before your session, and if possible, allow a little space in your day afterwards so you're not rushing straight into something demanding. Beyond that, simply come as you are. There's nothing you need to bring, practise, or prepare - just a willingness to rest.
You might find your answer here - and if not, you're always welcome to get in touch.
You Don't Have to Have It All Figured Out
