Why Your Energy Feels Scattered - And How to Reclaim It

I knew my energy was scattered when I placed my phone on the roof of the car to put something in the car - then drove off - with my phone still on the roof! Have you ever done that?

It had been one of those weeks - rushing between work, family, household cleaning and those usual responsibilities, and trying to keep everyone else's needs met. My brain felt foggy, my body felt heavy, and my mind was darting between 27 different things at once.

Sound familiar?

You're not alone, lovely. And you're certainly not falling apart - even if it feels that way sometimes.

What you're feeling is often what happens when life pulls us in too many directions -when we pour our energy outward without taking time to gather ourselves back in. And for so many of us in midlife, it can feel like there's nothing left for you at the end of the day.

But it doesn't have to stay this way.

Why We Feel So Scattered in Midlife

Midlife is full of invisible demands. You're carrying everyone else's world on your shoulders - their worries, their schedules, their needs - while your own quietly get pushed aside. In the process, it's easy to feel like you're disappearing into your to-do list. Add into the melting pot hormonal changes, changing family dynamics, and work pressures, and it's no wonder you feel like your mind and body are out of sync.

It's not a flaw. It's your body and spirit saying: it's time to gather yourself back.

And the timing couldn't be better, because autumn is the perfect season to do just that.

The Energy of Autumn - And How It Can Help You Reset

Autumn is my favourite time of year. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, autumn marks the shift to the Metal Element. A time to let go of what no longer serves you and draw your energy back inward. The Metal Element is associated with the lungs, breath, and the ability to find courage, inspiration, and clarity even as we release what needs to go.

That might mean letting go of habits, situations, or even outdated stories about yourself that no longer fit who you're becoming.

At its heart, this season asks you to breathe - to literally and figuratively inhale what strengthens you and exhale what drains you.

A Simple Practice to Reclaim Your Energy

Here's one small way to start gathering yourself back this month:

🌱 Breath & Release Ritual

  • Step outside or find a quiet space.

  • Stand tall, feet hip-width apart, arms relaxed.

  • Take a slow, deep breath in through your nose, imagining fresh white sparkling energy filling your lungs and settling into your belly.

  • Exhale through your mouth with a soft sigh, imagining the scattered pieces of yourself gently returning home to you.

  • Repeat for 5 breaths. Each time, whisper quietly: "I am gathering myself back."

  • Notice how it feels when your energy settles - like coming home to yourself after being away too long.

When your energy is gathered rather than scattered, you'll notice small shifts: remembering where you put your keys, finishing conversations without losing your train of thought, moving through your day with a steadier rhythm instead of that frantic rushing around feeling.

Autumn reminds us that we're allowed to let go. We're allowed to reset. We're allowed to reclaim what we need.

You deserve to feel calm, clear, and inspired in this season of your life.

So, take a breath, lovely… and begin again.

Breathe & believe, 💫
